In this edition of our Employee Spotlight, we're excited to shine a light on Artem Jeman, a Software Engineer in Test based in our Vancouver office. Artem has been with TrustFlight since July 2022, bringing an array of experience and a passion for innovation to our team.

A Journey Through Software and Quality Assurance

Artem's path to TrustFlight is marked by a diverse and impressive background in software testing and quality assurance. After studying Computer Systems at BCIT, Artem embarked on his professional journey with FDM Software, where he tested RMS and CAD(EMS) systems for public safety agencies across North and South America. This experience laid the foundation for his expertise in ensuring the reliability of complex software solutions.

His career then took him to Jostle Inc, an intranet software company, where he not only focused on manual and automated testing but also stepped into a leadership role, managing a team of QA engineers. This experience honed his leadership and project management skills, preparing him for future challenges.

Before joining TrustFlight, Artem contributed his skills to Zenhub, a productivity management platform for GitHub, where he played a crucial role in improving testing processes and enhancing the efficiency of the software development lifecycle.

Taking Flight with TrustFlight

When asked about his transition to the aviation industry and TrustFlight, Artem's enthusiasm is palpable. "I've always found the aviation industry to be incredibly fascinating," he shares. "The software developed in this field isn't just another app; it plays a crucial role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and innovation within the aviation space."

It wasn't just the allure of the industry that drew Artem to TrustFlight, but also the company's culture and team. "When I had the opportunity to meet the team at TrustFlight, their passion, expertise, and collaborative spirit truly stood out," Artem explains. Wearing Multiple Hats: SDET and Product Owner

At TrustFlight, Artem's role as a Software Engineer in Test is multifaceted and dynamic. He primarily focuses on the MEL Manager product, where he serves as both an SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) and Product Owner. This dual role involves ensuring quality, planning releases, and collaborating with Subject Matter Experts to gather requirements.

In addition to his work on MEL Manager, Artem supports testing efforts for the TL Dashboard and Shared Services Integrations teams. "These projects keep me engaged and continually learning," Artem notes, "as they require a deep understanding of various aspects of our software and their integration points."

Overcoming Challenges Through Collaboration

When faced with implementing a complex feature that affected multiple teams across the platform, Artem's approach highlighted the collaborative spirit at TrustFlight. "The key to overcoming this challenge was getting the right people in the room," he explains. "This meant bringing together experts from various teams, including AI specialists, developers from different product areas, product managers and leadership."

This collaborative effort not only led to the successful implementation of the feature but also ensured that all related products within the platform worked harmoniously. Artem emphasizes, "These collaborative efforts highlight the importance of teamwork and communication in problem-solving at TrustFlight, leading to great outcomes and continuous innovation."

A Vision for the Future of Aviation Technology

Looking ahead, Artem is excited about the future of aviation technology and TrustFlight's role in shaping it. "I believe aviation technology is poised for significant growth, making flying safer, more reliable, and efficient, while enhancing the experience for pilots, flight crew, maintenance crew, and passengers," he says.

Artem is particularly enthusiastic about advancements in AI and their potential to enhance predictive maintenance and operational efficiency. "TrustFlight is well-positioned to contribute to these advancements," he asserts. "Our commitment to innovation and quality means we will be at the forefront of integrating these technologies into our products."

Beyond the Office: Embracing the Great Outdoors

When he's not innovating at TrustFlight, Artem enjoys spending time with family and friends and embracing the outdoor activities that Vancouver has to offer. An avid hiker, paddle boarder, camper, and skier, Artem finds balance and rejuvenation in nature.

Interestingly, Artem's love for outdoor adventures intersects with his passion for aviation. "My love for the outdoors often makes me consider getting a pilot's license to reach very remote places," he reveals. This personal interest not only fuels his enthusiasm for aviation but also inspires him to push boundaries and innovate within the industry.
